Anyways, here is what Erin said about my questions :)
Tell us a bit about yourself?
I’m really bad at introducing myself, but hey! I’m Erin, I’m 19 years old from Queensland Australia. I’m currently not studying anything, I went to university for a year in 2013 but dropped out of the end of the year because it made me utterly miserable and didn’t feel like it was the place for me. Right now I’m spending the year focussing more on myself and I what I want to do with my life. I’d tell you my hobbies but I guess I’m going to be telling you about them in a few questions time!
Why and when did you start blogging?
I started my “lifestyle” blog (The Halfway Point) in January 2013. It was mostly because I’d just finished school and thought it would be a good way to share my thoughts and experiences in my new stage of life. I’d started a blog before but when I looked back at it it was so cringe-worthy! Full of ranting and rambling that nobody in their right mind would want to read.
What is your favourite thing about blogging?
Definitely getting to connect with other bloggers! There’s the sweetest community out there and it took me a while to find them but I’m so glad I did. I love getting to see everyone’s creativity and different styles, it’s all very inspiring!
You are updating your blog a bit. What are your plans for The Halfway Point 2.0?
I am indeed and I’m super excited for it! I didn’t want to change my blog so much as add on to it, so the topics I used to post are still going to be continuing but I’m hoping to also introduce other topics that interest me. I used to hold back on writing some of the posts I wanted to simply because I didn’t think it “fit” with my blog. I’m hoping this update will change that! I’m going to be focussing a lot on self-improvement and learning to become the person you want to be. Hopefully that will inspire others to be their best selves too!
What is your favourite thing to do in your spare time?
There’s actually a lot of things and I tend to jump between all of them. I love creating in general, whether that be in the form of sewing, crochet, writing, or any other sort of craft. I also love reading and have discovered a passion for astronomy recently. But I’d have to say my favourite thing to do in my spare time is simply teach myself. If there’s a topic I’m interested in I’ll research all I can about it and keep notes on it. Anything from Greek Mythology to space, it’s like my substitute to learning at university, except I get to just focus on things that I’m interested in. It’s great!
How do you come up with your DIYs?
All different places. Sometimes I’ll see a product in the shops and think of ways I could make it my own and unique. The internet is a great place to find inspiration too, whether that be pinterest, tumblr or other blogs. Some people can come up with amazing DIY’s and I wish mine could be up to their standards, but I’m happy to work with what I’ve got!
Who inspires you the most?
This is actually a really tricky question. Everyone inspires me in different ways and I think it’s good to have multiple people that inspire you because nobody’s perfect are they? So if you only draw your inspiration from one person you could end up forgetting that they’re just as flawed as everyone else and that’s totally okay. If I had to pick certain people though I’d say:
1. Shailene Woodley. I don’t know if you’ve heard much about the lifestyle she lives but she’s really into herbalism and being as connected to the natural world as you can be. I love her morals around ideas like that and also the way she explains them. She’s so eloquent and I really admire her ability to be herself especially in such a harsh business!
2. Carly. If you’ve not checked out her blog at zauberbear.blogspot.com you are seriously missing out on some magic. I don’t know how to explain it, but I think she’s the bees knees. Her mind doesn’t march to the same beat as the majority’s which is such an awesome thing to witness because she views the world in this completely unique way that will leave you willing your eyes to see the world like that too. One look at her blog and you’ll know what I’m talking about. She’s crazy inspiring!
What would you like your job to be when you’re older?
Argh the dreaded J-word! I honestly have no idea. In fact I think I’ll spend my whole life not having any idea. I don’t particularly want a set career, I’m not sure I ever really want to settle down anywhere and would prefer to just try my hand at everything and anything than just have one area of expertise. In today’s world though that’s unfortunately getting less and less plausible, but I hope if I do find a career I want to spend my life doing it’s one that leaves me happy at the end of the day. That’s all I can ask of it.
