Why did I crochet a cushion?

Crochet Blooming Flower Cushion
You may or may not know that about a year (or so) ago I crocheted a blooming flower cushion, it was the main reason I learn't to crochet, but I never really talked about it here. I mentioned finishing it in a craft post and didn't much about it so today I want to tell you why I made it, how I found out about it and if I will ever do it again.

Crochet Blooming Flower Cushion
I first found crocheting through Craftygirl (who now has moved blogs) when she started making her blooming flower cushion, at that time I had just learnt to knit and really want to crochet. This cushion was all I wanted to make, so I YouTubed crocheting and tried to learn.. I couldn't figure it out so I gave up.

About a month (or more) later I tried again because the cushion was so tempting. I had got it! I taught myself to crochet. I made I few small things like a flower coaster until I was ready for the cushion (Dah dah dahhh).

Making the cushion took a long time mainly because I was a slow crocheter. If I were to do it now I believe it would be much quicker. I remember taking it places, like to dinners at mums friends houses, so I could finish it quicker (plus I got to show off my skills).

I took a few weeks to complete it because I only did a bit here and there, but when I did it was breathtaking. It was the first big thing I had ever made (I think?) and, not to sound dramatic or anything but, it probably changed my life. If I didn't make this cushion I most likely would have gotten over crocheting and moved on to another craft.

Even though its still going strong (other than the dog hair and pilling) I would definitely make it again, maybe not another one after that but you never know. Oo maybe I could do colour themed ones.. I can just imagine.

Maybe next time I crochet I cushion it could a different pattern completely, that could work too. But I think I should finish my blanket first..

See you next time xx

  1. wow! That cushion is so cool! You are one talented crocheter. I once tried crocheting, I kept on messing it up, starting again and then just figured that maybe crocheting isn't my thing.

  2. Hey Ruby,
Your blog is lovely, and I just wanted to say that your idea of 'reviewing' the cushion is fabulous.
