Clean your Room + Keep it That Way

Hey!
Lately, I have been in need of a clean room and we all know teenagers aren't the best at that, so I have put together a list of things to help you clean your room better and hopefully quicker, as well as simple ways to keep it clean.

CLEAN IT

Make time
Now when your room is bad you need all the time you can get so schedule an afternoon to do it, or if you want to go through the 'already put away' then maybe a whole day :)

Play music (and a lot of it)
Music is the best thing when cleaning anything I play it all day everyday, so you better have a lot. I like to download it from YouTube Mp3, put it on my iPod and play it on a dock so it doesn't use computer battery that I don't have.

Section it
By taking on one section at a time you can feel less overloaded with stuff and it will make it more manageable. If I don't do this it will feel like to much and I probably wouldn't end up finishing.

Take small breaks
Without breaks cleaning can be never ending. In your break time maybe get something to eat, but do not check social media or watch tv you could get hooked, and once your in its hard to get back to cleaning. If you are in cleaning mode where you just don't want to stop, don't (well unless you need to go to the toilet or something), when I'm in cleaning mode breaks take me out and I really can't be bothered to continue.

Everything has a place
When something doesn't have a space, make one for it, yes I know, you might not think you can cram anything else into your room, well I seem to do it all the time. Some re-arranging of certain things helps make room you didn't know you had.

Clean that wardrobe
Ah that feeling when you walk into a clean room, then go to change and when you open your wardrobe door everything either is everywhere or it falls on top of you :( I wrote a whole post on how to clean and organise your wardrobe, so go tackle that wardrobe!

Don't miss things
'Oh I'll put that somewhere later' is probably what you tell yourself after a while, but we all know how that turns out.. it stays there with no place until you have another big clean up. So put that away and power through the end!

Vacuum
Yay nearly done! Vacuuming is what I like to end with, it automatically makes the room feel cleaner and is like adding the finishing touch to the room. Oh and don't slack out with the vacuum, you need to make sure you don't need to go back to soon.

BAM! and your room is clean! Okay, it wasn't that easy but still, aren't you proud of yourself? You better be :) Now to stop you for having to do that all over again I have some ideas on how you can keep it clean.

MAINTAIN IT

Make your bed
Whether you do this in the morning or when you get home from school, a tidy bed makes a big difference. You don't have to do it perfectly but at least pull up your doona/duvet and add pillows, this also helps to prevent you from climbing under the covers and going back to bed.

Don't keep things 'laying around'
Yep, this ones for me. Things can't just be dumped on your bed and then moved to the floor at night, why are they even there? Put things away, don't leave them on the floor for later because later is probably never.

Vacuum
Get that vacuum in here and clean the hair off the floor (so me), like I said, vacuuming makes your room really clean and I love that clean feeling. I really should vacuum after this.

Clothes get put away
Okay I really need to start doing these. Don't leave clothes hanging around and definitely don't shove them in your wardrobe (I used to do that too). I have a clothes rack so I can't really shove them anywhere, although currently there is dress hanging over it... whoops.

I just went and put my clothes away.. see this is what blogging does to me, makes me listen to my advice *head shake*. So hows your room look now? All better? Let me know what you think of this kind of post (me typing to much). It was fun the write and now I just want to clean my room, I'm going to have to write more of these.

What did you do for Valentines Day? I went to a park, rode around getting sunburnt and had chips for lunch (yum!) with family friends. Now my legs are dead, and I'm rosy red.

  1. Great tips Ruby! There's a book called The Magic of Tidying that I'm sort of intrigued to read, it's all about first going through the things you own, keeping the ones that make you happy or are practical and discarding the rest. That seems a little extreme to me seeing as I'm one of those people who likes their room to be like a museum of trinkets instead of a minimalistic space. But I think the point about everything having its own place is so important (I say as I drown under a pile of paper on my desk).
I think I might go and clean up now!

  2. Thank you Erin! Oh I might have to check it out, although I do the same as you.. *Ooo that looks cute*. Yeah, you sound like me, I think I can write posts like this because i'm writing about what I should do, then I look around my room and keep writing, not actually cleaning it like I say.
Then after I write it I actually clean because I feel bad about writing about it but not doing it :P
Yep, cleaning time it is, Thanks for reminding me -_-
