My Thoughts on Crocheting a Blanket

Crocheting a Blanket?
Recently I went crazy and thought I would crochet a blanket..
After volunteering at a local aged care Knitting group where half the ladies knitted and the others crocheted (mainly blankets), I really wanted to make a blanket for my room. I remembered seeing a tutorial on a granny stripe blanket by Attic 24 and envisaged it laying on my bed. Today I thought I would tell you my thoughts on crocheting this blanket.

I'm am using a pro and con list to show you my thoughts on this blanket so far. This will be simple to read and compare to if you are thinking about crocheting a blanket too.

Pros
Simple and Repetitive
If you have ever crocheted a granny square you will know that it is quite simple, well this blanket is easier. There is no corners or increasing so all the rows take the same amount of time, which I really really like.

Something to do
I love having something to do while watching TV or a movie and this is the prefect project. Since it is so simple I can do it without full concentration meaning I can doing other things (that don't require hands).

Custom Colours
I'm not going with a colour theme because my room has every colour it can have. Not knowing what colour is next is exciting for me and I like the feeling of randomness the blanket with give out.

The Thought Completion
It makes me feel good knowing that if I continue crocheting it I will have made a blanket just for me. I still smile every time I see my crochet cushion I made.
Tip: Practise making something smaller such as a cushion before attempting a blanket. I made a Blooming Flower Cushion from Attic 24.
Cons
It's Big
Yes it's only for a single bed, but that's pretty big for a first-time-blanket-crocheter. I do two rows of each colour which sometimes feels like forever to get a colour done.

Worst First Rows
To start I had to chain in multiples of three which took a while to recount after I lost count. I ended up chaining 180 plus an extra 2(for those who are interested). Then I went back and worked DC's into each chain which took some time but after that it was pretty simple.

Overall I am really enjoying making this blanket and I hope this inspired you to try one as well. I can't wait to see it finished and on my bed :D

Also I am going to be starting an email subscription, so if you subscribe you will be notified when I publish a new post.

Have you ever crocheted (or knitted) a blanket before? If not, do you think you ever will?
