So in English I had to write a description of a scene and I had know idea what to describe because it gave examples of sports and concerts with I have never been to. In the end I decided to describe late-night shopping. Every Thursday at our local shopping centre its open until ten for late night shopping and its crazy so I wrote about that. I am pretty proud of it and thought I would share it here, not just for others to read but also so I can look back on it one day which I think would be cool.
Imagine a full concert, how loud it is and hard to move it would be, now put that into a shopping centre on a Thursday night. Thats where I am. We don’t usually come late-night shopping, but this week we needed to get some things. I’m already tired from all the commotion and we only just got here. Right now is dinner time - 6:30 - and the food court is looking more like a jungle and sounding more like a boy-band concert without the music. I can’t even hear myself think. So we don’t talk over dinner because you would either need to lip read or yell to understand what we’re saying.
After dinner we head to JB-HI-FI where my brother wants to pick up a game and I want to look at movies. We go past delicious and horrible smells all at once, donuts mixed with a nail salon. I try to hold my breath so my throat and nose don’t sting from the nail polish but it’s no use. While my insides are burning I have to try and walk through the gaps of people like a maze so I don’t lose my family, luckily mum has super-curly hair so I can spot her easily.
Once I found my mum and brother I breath for a bit and look around at the other shoppers. This is what we like to call people watching, like bird watching but more comparable and easier to understand. I find nearly every type of person that could possibly be late-night shopping. Right now I’m looking for families, I want to spot the difference between some that I see tonight. These are the family types I have found so far; the young ones with loud, annoying children (these are most common); the teenagers that are arguing with their parents and sibling most of the time (that’s usually us); and the perfect family who all act like it’s not super loud in here.
In JB-HI-FI its even worse than the food court. In here it actually sounds like a concert, with music and everything. The rows for movies and CDs are filled with people and there are not that many near the computer section. So I ditch my idea and start looking at computers, I don’t even need or want a new one but it looks safer over here.
This is why we don’t come here often. Hopefully next time we come late-night shopping will be a long time away because I don’t think I can handle this level of sound and people again, anytime soon.
