The Self-Discovery Project

Recently I have felt really really weird (which is a quite regular thing for me) and I read this article about getting out of a rut and the reason why you feel like that. This is my explanation on that.

The reason you get in a rut is because your overloaded by ideas and thoughts that aren't yours, you get confused by all the options and don't know what to do, so you do nothing. You're trapped inside other peoples ideas and can't get yours out. You are simply not being you. Even if you think that is you, your brain is saying otherwise.

To allow myself to take a break and to test this theory I have set up a week-long experiment to see how I feel. This revolves around not seeing other peoples ideas so you can think of your own. P.S. I have made this for me but if you feel you need it please go ahead :) In the name of Science lets do this!

The Idea

Limiting other peoples ideas and opinions will help creativity and allow your own thoughts to flow, after some time this will lead to self discovery and a happier you.

What else to do

Instead of doing these things be more creative and seek adventure. Go to new places, explore old places deeper, draw, write, create, think, listen to the world, sit and do nothing, swim, run, sew, crochet, knit, play with Blythe, organise your room with no-one else’s help

Take one week away from

  • TV
  • Movies
  • Youtube
  • Blogs
  • Emails
  • Instagram
  • Online Business
  • Facebook
  • Internet articles that aren’t for schooling
  • Blythe photos
  • Other photos that aren’t for schooling
  • Podcasts
  • Limit other peoples ideas
  • Limit Music
  • Books (Novels)- 2 hours a day max
  • Books (Non-fiction) - Only for school uses

Post-experiment

After the experiment add back one thing weekly, this continues the experiment while allowing more freedom.

Things I want to get done

For some reason I feel this is personal, but when I look at it I can see why..
  • Clean my room
  • Organise my room
  • Sew doll stuff
  • See the planets align
  • Read more of Girl Online on Tour
  • Write more
  • Document the process with a video and daily journaling/written update
  • Add more flowers to my crochet vine
  • Take lots of photos of what I'm doing
  • Upcycle an old skirt
  • Think of Blythe Fest ideas
  • Go to many places
  • Go for daily walks
  • Do Yoga daily
  • Draw stuff
  • Relax
  • Crochet
  • Help around the house
  • Wake up early
  • See the sunrise
  • See the sunrise while at the beach
  • Go to bed early

I'm starting this tomorrow because I just can't wait! We already have plans for some days which I'm excited for! I think I will update my progress on my blog (hopefully daily) since thats within the rules, I would like to write and post them before bed every night so the date on my post will be the actual day I'm writing about.

For the documenting side of it I have a few things in mind. First I want to write what I did here, everything I did that day instead of what I would normally do (kind of like a day in my life?). Next I want to video some things that I do (also instead of what I would normally do) to show things that can be done instead, also its a cool memory to look back on one day. In addition to that I want to take lots of photos to add to a finished 'report' (for school), to print out to remember and to share here with my daily posts. Thats sounds like a lot of work but I'm excited :D

I have a feeling I'm going to get a lot done. Hopefully I do, Thats exactly what I want!

One thing I have really mentioned is self-discovery. Now this is probably the main reason I'm doing this. I can't figure out whether things I like are actually what I like or what I saw other people liking, it's super confusing.
I really want to know what I actually like. So many people have asked me what I want to do and I have absolutely no idea. Then other people say; wow you're good at sewing, you should do as a job, have you thought about that? The answer is yes, after so many people asking me what I want to do I think a lot about it, about everything I'm good at but I still have no idea. Maybe, just maybe this experiment can show me something I don't know about myself.

One last thing I want to add is if I really like how everything goes I might continue with this for as long as I want, I will let you know though.

I'm pretty excited for this, I hope you are too! Also if this post is a mess.. it's my brains fault.

P.S. This is something I truely want to do and learn about but this is also included as a school science experiment so that's another reason why I'm putting in a lot of work.
